Division carries out selection of seed sources and planning
their management to meet immediate seed demand for plantations. Moreover,
research and application concerning selection of special tree forms,
selection and management of Seed Stands and Gene Conservation Forests
are also performed. Division has one ongoing research project.

Seed Stands: Seed stands are chosen in a specific geographic region among natural
stands of having trees of superior quality concerning desired characteristics. It must be emphasized that seed stands
are generally used as interim sources of seed in forest tree improvement and that they are phased out as better
genetic seed become available from seed orchards.
Seed stands are treated and managed with a special plan so as to produce qualified seed from known sources.
There are 344 seed stands covering 46.327.5 ha for 27 different forest tree species.
Gene
Conservation Forests: These forests are selected for protecting genetic diversity of
forest tree species in their natural habitat and managed by special plans. There
are 162 gene conservation forests covering 23.256.6 ha for 23 different
forest tree species.
Special
Tree Forms: They
are not defined as a variety and their natural distribution is very limited.
These forms caused by inheritable differences between individuals of the same species.
Turkey has 12 trees with special forms belong 8 different forest tree species.
