The Comparison of Existing Genetic Diversity in Anatolian Black Pine (Pinus nigra Arnold subsp. pallasiana)  Seed Stands, Seed Orchards, and Plantations Using Molecular Markers: Implications for Tree Improvement and Gene Conservation (ANK 17 1611/1999 – 2002)

Project Leader: Ercan VELİOĞLU

Project Managers: Ercan VELİOĞLU, Burcu ÇENGEL, Murat ALAN, Zeki KAYA

Institutions in cooperation: Middle East Technical University, Dept. of Biology

Supporting Institution:  Society for the Conservation of Turkey’s Nature

Objective: To determine and compare the genetic diversity and changes in amount and pattern of genetic diversity in Anatolian black pine seed stands, seed orchards and plantations originated from these stands by using molecular markers. Data obtained will be evaluated to determine the amount of genetic diversity and changes in genetic diversity in seed stands, seed orchards and plantations. Results of the study (genetic diversity, genetic distances of populations) will be used in tree breeding and gene conservation practices.

Activities: Seed collection and extraction works has been completed. DNA isolation work is still going on.
