The
Ecology of Beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) Forests and
Their Regioning in Terms of Seed Transfer |
Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis L.) forests grow on the slopes
facing north of the Northern Anatolian Mountains, Istranca Mountains in
Thrace and on the high slopes of the backward section of the mountains
extending along the southern section of Kelkit Valley and Kastamonu Plateau.
The northern slopes of the Kapı-Kara Mountain, Ulu-Domoniç Mountains and
Kaz Mountains are the main growing areas of the oriental beech. In addition
to this, Fagus orientalis forests also found as a small
cluster on the northern slopes of Şaphane and Murat Mountains in Aegean
region. Central Anatolian Mountains and Amanos mountains in the two
geographical regions of Turkey named “Black Sea and Marmara” are divided
into three region in terms of regioning of seed transfer or ecological
properties: 1- Blacksea region (Northern Anatolia and North of Thrace),
2- Backward region of Blacksea, and 3- Marmara region. These regions are
also divided into subregion 11,10, and 9, respectively. The oriental beech
